Yes, it was me who asked this on IG. Thank you! I’ve felt a lot of pressure to “age up” from YA to adult or even “new adult”, but my heart isn’t really in it.
Hmmm... if your heart isn't in it, I wouldn't force it. At least not for this particular project. But it might be worth brainstorming some new ideas that sit in the new adult or adult categories that you ARE excited about. (Or are you simply not feeling excited about those age groups in general? YA has a very unique voice/perspective with the MCs on the cusp of adulthood, so if you feel called to that type of coming-of-age story, I can understand how/why you may not be excited about writing outside that category)
