Thank you, Erin. I've been feeling for a while a stew of negative feelings about writers using AI but haven't been able to articulate exactly why I feel the way I feel. This post put words to my feelings and made me feel validated. ❤️
Thanks for reading, Brieanna. It's taken me a long time to pull my thoughts together on this topic—it's something I've been stewing about for months now—and I'm glad it resonated with you.
I LOVED this post. It feels like you encapsulated all of the roiling thoughts I have about generative AI as a writer and a teacher and actually put them into perspective. It boggles my mind how many people support generative AI for creative purposes. High school students, I can understand - they don't always have the maturity to see that it's not about the essay they (or AI) produce, it's about the thinking process and the work they put into the assignment. But adults? I just don't know. Thank you.
I'm so happy to hear it resonated! I've been mulling all these thoughts over for awhile now—definitely quite a few months—and it was pretty cathartic to finally put it all in one post.
James Frey who famously made up enough of his memoir that he had to go publicly apologize to OPRAH, and yet I still know his name and I hate every part of the system that didn't immediately turn him out on his ear
Really loved this post!
Thanks for reading. Glad you enjoyed it. :)

"By letting a machine speak for you, you are choosing to say nothing." This!! I love this.
Thank you!! It seems so simple and straightforward to me, and yet! So many pro-genAI takes floating around these days.

Love this, thank you for writing what I’ve been thinking!

Yep, the very same. I’m not at all surprised that he’s again doing things that make everyone raise their eyebrows and ask, “seriously?”
